Soundwaves
Soundwaves is an exciting and innovative project to try and establish a hydrophone in the Shannon estuary that can transmit dolphin vocalisations in real time, via the Vodafone network, to a land station. This project is funded by Vodafone who are interested in supporting environmental uses of their technology.

Project objectivesThis proposal is to establish a system in the Shannon estuary with which we can listen to dolphins as they move around the Shannon estuary utilising the extensive Vodafone mobile phone network. This project will not only provide essential information for conservation monitoring but will help educate people about dolphins and the potential threats they face.
This project will be carried out by the SDWF in collaboration with the Hydraulics and Maritime Research Centre in the Department of Civil Engineering, University College, Cork.
